Emotion Education is an innovative approach to personal
growth developed by Joie Seldon, in which acquiring a practical,
nuts-and-bolts understanding of emotions—what they are, how they
physically manifest in our bodies, and what vital information can
be gained from them—markedly
accelerates personal growth, healing, emotional intelligence, and
communication skills. The adage “knowledge is power” applies
to the often mysterious matter of emotions as much as to any other
subject.
It is not uncommon to hear that we should be more in touch with our feelings,
but how do we do that? In spite of the fact that we experience emotions
from the moment we are born, we often take them for granted, without truly
understanding them. Most of us develop, or are taught, misguided beliefs
and attitudes about certain emotions, and even about emotions in general.
This can hinder our growth, stand in the way of creating healthy relationships,
and cause unnecessary emotional pain.
Most of us, consciously or unconsciously, decide somewhere along the way
that some emotions are “good,” and others are “bad;” some
are okay to express, others are not; some are okay to feel, and others
are not. Joie’s approach teaches that all core emotions are natural
and necessary and that it is the repression or denial of them that turns
them into something negative.
Though she takes her work seriously, her approach is upbeat, using fun,
simple exercises and easy-to-understand teachings that normalize and demystify
what may at first seem like an enigmatic and complex subject. She creates
a safe experience for her clients and students, and provides practical
techniques that they can use on their own.
The old adage says “knowledge is power.” Emotion Education
gives you the power to take charge of your life, rather than being at the
mercy of your circumstances, and to make conscious choices that are in
alignment with who you truly are.
“And this above all else, to thine own self be true.” Shakespeare

You
have the strongest power in your life by experiencing your emotions
because those are the moments that create expansion, that’s where you draw
on your strength. I think that we do repeat a lot of the same patterns,
but it’s in really experiencing your emotions, holding your emotions,
really working through it. Those are the conditions for your awakening.
That’s when you really find out who you are.
